Studies on transport through the liquid membrane bilayers generated by lecithin, cholesterol, and lecithin-cholesterol mixtures have been conducted in the presence of polyene antibiotics—amphotericin B and nystatin. Measurements of the hydraulic conductivity coefficient, transport numbers, and solute permeability of chloride ions have been made. The data obtained indicate the formation of aqueous pores by the antibiotics in the liquid membrane bilayers and show trends consistent with those reported on BLMs.
